Frequently Asked Questions
Everything about Strava activity maps, prints, and shipping.
Getting Started
How does it work?
For activity maps, connect Strava with read-only access, choose the ride, run, or hike you want to keep, then preview the route as raised terrain with plaque details. For place-based maps, use the terrain editor to search any location, frame the area, preview it in 3D, and order when the selected terrain looks right.
Can I order for an activity from years ago?
Yes. Once you connect Strava, older public activities can be selected as long as Strava still has the route geometry and activity details available. That makes MapCraft useful for race finishes, first summits, old training milestones, and trips you still remember years later.
Can I preview the map before ordering?
Yes. The preview lets you check the terrain, route placement, plaque text, and overall composition before you order. If the terrain is too tight, too wide, or missing the part of the landscape that matters, adjust the selection before moving to checkout.
Do I need Strava to create a MapCraft piece?
No. Strava is only needed for activity-based wall pieces with a GPS route and activity stats. If you want a terrain piece for a city, coastline, mountain, lake, or other place, use the 3D terrain editor and search for the location directly.
Can I make a gift for someone else?
Yes. MapCraft pieces work well for race finishes, first long rides, hiking trips, hometowns, and meaningful places. For a Strava-based gift, you need access to the activity data before ordering; for a place-based gift, you can use the location editor without connecting Strava.
Product & Customization
Can I choose which stats appear on the plaque?
The plaque can show activity details such as the activity name, distance, elevation, and date. In the configurator, you can review the presentation before ordering so the finished piece feels like a keepsake rather than a generic map.
What sizes are available?
The framed activity-map format is designed as a compact wall piece, currently centered around a 15 x 15 cm framed presentation. Product availability can vary by finish, so check the current options shown in the configurator before checkout.
What is the difference between quiet relief and full terrain?
Quiet relief keeps the terrain restrained with a pale surface and a clear route trace, which works well in minimal rooms or workspaces. Full terrain adds more landscape color and visual detail, which can make coastlines, mountains, and water features easier to recognize at a glance.
Can I create a map from any place?
For place-based maps, you can search addresses, landmarks, city blocks, coastlines, lakes, mountains, and other real-world locations in the terrain editor. The best results come from areas with recognizable elevation, shoreline, urban form, or personal meaning.
Shipping & Support
How long does shipping take?
Production usually takes 5-7 business days because each piece is made to order from the selected terrain or activity data. Standard shipping within the EU usually adds 3-5 business days after production, depending on the destination and carrier conditions.
Do you ship outside the EU?
We currently focus standard shipping on the EU so delivery times, support, and replacement handling stay predictable. International shipping is planned; contact us if you want to be notified when your country becomes available.
What if my print arrives damaged?
Email us with a photo of the damage and the order details as soon as the package arrives. We will review the issue and arrange a replacement or refund based on the situation, so you are not stuck with a damaged custom piece.
Where can I check production and return details?
The shipping and returns page has the current production, delivery, and support information. Review it before ordering if the piece is time-sensitive, especially for birthdays, race celebrations, holidays, or other milestone gifts.
Privacy & Data
How do you use my Strava data?
We request read-only Strava access so you can browse activities and choose the one you want to turn into a physical piece. Activity geometry and metadata are used to build the preview, route relief, and plaque details for your order. We do not post to Strava, edit activities, or use the connection to write anything back.
Can I disconnect Strava?
Yes. You can disconnect from your MapCraft activities page or revoke MapCraft from your Strava settings. Disconnecting removes stored access tokens so MapCraft can no longer fetch new activity data for that browser session.
Do you store raw search text from the location editor?
No. Analytics for the editor is privacy-constrained and avoids raw search text. The product flow can use flags such as whether a location was present, but it should not send addresses, names, or other free-form location text as analytics data.
